About

Tyler is a Guitarist, Music Teacher and Recording Artist that was born and raised in San Diego, CA. In addition to his solo project instrumental music, you can also find him in San Diego rock bands [bxwd], and Cherry Road.

Back in 2014, after graduating from Northern Arizona University where he studied Biology and Chemistry, Tyler headed back home to pursue his goals and dreams as a guitarist and musician. With the help of his childhood guitar teacher and mentor, Seth Hollander, Tyler then joined the San Diego based music school Mobile Music Teacher as a Guitar, Bass, and Ukulele Instructor. Over the next eight years, while earning his stripes as a local musician in bands Cherry Road and [bxwd], Tyler’s passion for teaching and creating grew stronger and stronger.

In 2022, from the comfort of his DIY bedroom home studio, Tyler wrote, recorded, produced and released his debut solo project instrumental album titled Nothing Interesting Happens. This album marked the birth of Tyler’s new style as a guitarist and musician. NIH shines through on many facets from musical inspirations of rock, blues, jazz, metal, acoustic, and more. Nowadays, the kids tend to call this kind of music “math-rock”, largely because it confuses people’s brains, and frankly no one knows what the hell else to call it. Specific artist influences of NIH include his “hometown heroes” Mario Camarena and Erick Hansel of Chon, Yvette Young of COVET, and various blues guitar legends of both past and present.

In addition to his intent for his music to serve as musical inspiration to his students and future guitarists, Tyler aims to use his voice as a means to spread awareness and garner support for various local San Diego based non-profit organizations. Along with the songs on his album, he plans to create music videos to capture some of the beauty, inspiration and importance of these causes. Tyler hopes that his music and videos can help inspire people to learn more about these movements and potentially get involved or make donations to these organizations themselves.

From the animal conservation and environmental protection efforts of the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance and I Love a Clean San Diego, to the mental health awareness and destigmatization efforts of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI San Diego), Tyler is excited to spread awareness of these organizations — guitar in hand.
