Super Effective

Solo Instrumental Album

Tyler Gill

The adventure continues in Tyler Gill’s sophomore instrumental release, aptly titled Super Effective. In case the eclectic nature of his first album, Nothing Interesting Happens wasn’t enough, Super Effective brings with it an elite team of six vastly unique tracks. With influences ranging from jazz, rock, classical, blues, and even to heavy metal, these songs are packed with an energetic variety that is sure to leave a mark.

Guitar forward and melodic by nature, Super Effective is an evolved and refined approach to the “math rock” sub-genre. Songs like “Sakura” and “Hero” morph high level guitar technicality into bright, nostalgic worlds of harmonious adventure - while “Spook” waits patiently until nightfall to land a hard-hitting and heavily distorted critical hit. Close your eyes and allow Super Effective to transport you into this world.

Your very own adventure is about to unfold.

Let’s go!

Nothing Interesting Happens

Solo Instrumental Album - Tyler Gill

Tyler Gill’s solo artist debut is a colorful, guitar-driven adventure called Nothing Interesting Happens. This short yet sonically dense eight track album is the product of Tyler as a writer, producer, and guitarist. With eclectic guitar influences ranging from various math-rock artists, to his blues guitar heroes of past and present, NIH is the synthesis of a new musical style that Tyler is excited to call his new home.

Throughout the writing process, Tyler wanted to push the limits of what he’d previously felt was capable of as a player. Musically speaking, Nothing Interesting Happens feels as if it plays by no rules or confines. The intricate nature of the album yields many key changes, time signatures, and advanced guitar techniques.

Nothing Interesting Happens is, as cliche as it sounds, the truest and most honest representation of Tyler’s musical soul. With an affinity for the natural world, his guitar, and a deep connection to video game legends and their respective musical accompaniment, Tyler’s passions have always been supported and aided by his incredibly loving family, childhood friends, and students. In result, NIH embodies the fun, free and explorative nature of both his self and his upbringing. While there is still much more music to come, Nothing Interesting Happens will always remain special as Tyler’s first ever solo-effort, and as the birth of his new sound.

Armed and ready with powerful melodies, searing guitar solos, and electrifying energy, [bxwd] was formed as a revival. Meet the new age blues-rock experience: a huge, modern and powerful collection of original songwriting that continues to pack clubs and turn heads around San Diego. Previously, rock and blues have taken a backseat while modern music has flourished. [bxwd] is here to change that. With sacred tribute to the rockstars and guitar heroes of both the past and present, this band offers you a vintage view into rock n roll history, while still maintaining a modern vision of today.

With the release of their debut EP Lotus in December of 2020, you may have heard some [bxwd] tunes floating around radio stations ranging from San Diego’s iconic 91X, to all the way across the country. These are songs that were written, recorded, produced and even mixed by the band itself. There’s no need to stand on shoulders when what you get from these four guys is original and true. That’s making music the way music should be made; from within.

From influences reaching back to BB King, Led Zeppelin and Eric Clapton all the way to John Mayer, Gary Clark Jr, Rival Sons and many more, this band will take you on a beautiful musical journey.

Cherry Road was formed around 2014 as a unique blend of different musical styles. Members Jon Wubbena, Neil Cohen, Tyler Gill, and Mike Coover called this sound “Groove Rock”, and in 2015 released their debut EP titled Modern Adventurism with producer Peter Duff at the Grey Brick Recording Studio in San Diego, CA. The band’s dynamic guitar duo, Jon and Tyler, meshed their different playing styles of funk/hip-hop/soul and blues/rock to create expansive and energetic jams that would come to define the eclectic sonic future of Cherry Road.

A couple of years later, the boys amicably parted ways with drummer Mike Coover and welcomed Israel Garcia into the band. In 2018, the band released their second EP, Ambitions - a refreshingly new and colorful apex of the band’s eclectic nature. With melodic powerhouses like “Dangerous” and “Lately”, and rhythmically complex tunes like “Modern Life” to give Israel a run for his money, Ambitions is Cherry Road’s boldest mark on the world of independent music.
